Overview
Many golfers feel that Spyglass ranks just a shade below Pebble Beach with good reason. It is a
spectacularly well-designed course that will require golfers to use every club in their bag.
Pro Tip: Consider walking your round with a caddy or with a pull cart but be aware that the course
has significant elevation changes.
What Was Impressive
-
The first 5 holes had scenic views of the Pacific Ocean.
-
Hole 3 was a dramatic downhill par 3 with the Pacific Ocean as its backdrop.
-
Pro Tip: On hole 3, one of the signature holes, there is almost always a significant hurting
breeze from the Pacific Ocean. Proper club selection is key! -
Robert Trent Jones stated that the 4th hole was his favorite par 4 that he designed. Admire
this wild green sunken between sand dunes. The putting surface was just 10 yards wide at its
most forgiving, and some 55 yards deep. -
Course conditions were impeccable.
What Could Be Improved
-
The Pro Shop staff, starters, and course marshals should be more service friendly. From the
moment you step onto their property, they were reminding you that pace of play is essential,
which everyone agrees on. Just say it in a nicer manner. -
The starter advertised the course as being mostly flat with few hills. Incorrect! The course
was very hilly, which was totally fine, but don’t be fooled.
