Overview

Owned and operated by the Northern California Golf Association, Poppy Hills Golf Course first
opened for play in 1986. Five years after its inauguration, it was co-hosting the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am event on the PGA Tour and this arrangement lasted until 2009. Located on the famed 17-mile Drive, Poppy Hills offers a challenging par-71 venue that weaves its way through the Del Monte Forest

What Was Impressive

  • The 18 th hole was a challenging and fun risk/reward par 5 that represents the course’s
signature hole. For long hitters, it will be reachable in 2 but beware of the waste area and
small creek in front of the green. If your layup shot is too far right, there will be a very tall
tree obstructing your vision of the green. Select that higher lofted club and fly it over the
tree! But after hitting that tree and realizing that they are not 90% air, perform an elite punch
out shot to the landing area left of the green and try to save par by chipping it in. Yeah, right.

  • The bentgrass greens were fast and challenging. Reading the subtle breaks can be maddening
    at times.

  • Course conditions were excellent.

What Could Be Improved

  • The amenities on the course were solid, but unremarkable. An upgrade would be
    appreciated.

Pro Tip: Greens fees for non-NCGA members was $350. Have one member of your party sign up
to become a NCGA Member for $99 and the Member rates drop to $90-120, with guests rates at
$135-175.
